The story was about Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad (AJYCP) and 20 other indigenous organisations demanding the regularisation of jobs of the 108 Mrityunjoy ambulance service employees in a joint statement.  The organisations urged the state government to increase their salary and pay them at par with the government medical staff, facilitate them with other required amenities, and provide necessary benefits to the employees who lost their ability to work during the period of service. They also appealed to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and Keshab Mahanta, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, to bring the 108 service under the state government’s ambit.

Public Transportation

JULY 8, 2021

This byline tried to put forward mainly the inconvenience of the daily commuters and passengers in local trains which were shut down due to the pandemic. After interviewing some of the passengers it was found that they were dependent upon the local passenger trains previously to reach office and workplaces as the monthly tickets were fairly cheap and the journey seemed comfortable enough. But, they have been facing difficulties in commuting since the lockdown. The unavailability of trains and buses led them to travel in different modes of transportation which is not so convenient to reach office on time. Keeping in view this plight, two MPs urged the North-East Frontier Railways to resume train services as soon as possible and this report focuses on it.

Exam Day

JULY 17, 2021

This report of mine is based on the division of the temperament of the students after the fourth session of JEE was suddenly delayed to Aug-Sep. The decision was taken by the National Testing Agency which received mixed reactions from the students about the postponement. While some appreciated that they will get enough time to prepare for the exam on the other hand, certain candidates expressed their dissent at the decision and were apprehensive of losing
opportunities to take admission and the valuable academic year.  This was published as a National news report on the website.

Fruits and Vegetables

JULY 17, 2021

This report of mine is all about the farmers of Chirang who along with the Panbari Bodofa Agro Organic Producer Company, exported the famous Assam lemon to the United Kingdom in the first week of July. The lemon, popularly known as Kazi Nemu, is produced only in Assam and is one of the main food items found in Assamese cuisine found in the International Markets of UK. The export is considered as a stepping stone in flourishing the agri-business industry of the state, and has empowered the farmers of Chirang, Assam by building proximity in the international market for more such future opportunities.

How Locals Saved the Kakoijana Forest and the Golden Langur

JULY 18, 2021

This feature article is about the community conservation that is practised in the forest of Kakoijana Reserved forest of Bongaigaon District. This article tried to present the active participation of the local community and the villagers in rebuilding the reserve forest back to life which was once a barren piece of land. The forest which is special for the endangered species of  Golden Langur is protected and looked after by the stakeholders mostly. To encourage community participation there has been huge contribution of the NGOs like Nature’s Foster and the International Organisation Community Conservation Inc. who has been working for the restoration of the ecosystem since 1997 and for transforming the perception  of the forest dwellers as it was hugely exploited by them at various occasions including during the Assam agitation. This story of the Kakoijana was unknown to many and thus I took to write the feature story about the community participation of the community and how they are continuing to follow the practice of it by forming Gram Sabhas among themselves.

Student

JULY 19, 2021

This report was about presenting the problems that the students faced during the pandemic and by the repeated cancellation of exams after its declaration that created a huge mayhem and disturbance among the students. The report focussed on how it is affecting their morale and enthusiasm to study. They expressed their dissent on the decision taken by the UGC that stated that Students of the intermediate semesters would be promoted to the subsequent semester based on the marks provided in the internal assessment as per the U.G.C Guidelines issued in July 2021 in the view of the COVID-19 pandemic. The students expressed their concern regarding their academic development as there has been none because they were being debarred from appearing in multiple examinations and were being promoted without any evaluation. This presented an example of the problem that was aroused by the second wave of the COVID-19 again in India and how it affected education.

Vaccine

JULY 20, 2021

In Biswanath district’s Char-Chapori areas, many communities who live away from the mainland could not avail the benefit of getting COVID-19 vaccine. Even the medical team was facing difficulties to reach out to them. But, now with the launch of the boat vaccination camp in Gohpur, the communities in the Char-Chapori areas have started taking vaccines now. This initiative was started by the Bengaluru-based NGO Karuna Trust and launched the Vivekananda Boat Clinic on June 21 in the Biswanath district. The two-storey clinic aimed to cover the six administrative units of Biswanath and Lakhimpur and has set a target to serve around 1.17 lakh people residing in the riverine islands of Brahmaputra. This report of mine also focused on the disbelief among the villagers that the vaccine might harm them. Many different factors of society instigated them against taking the vaccine. However, by spreading awareness among them the Karuna Trust NGO could draw a fairly good number of people trying to break the myth among these marginalised sections of people.
